Audio-Technica's AT897 is designed for field audio acquisition in film/TV/video production, professional recording, wildlife recording and broadcast applications.

It mounts conveniently onto a camcorder and remains out of the frame even with compact digital cameras. This high-performance short shotgun offers outstanding long-distance audio pickup due to narrow acceptance angle of line + gradient design. It also features smooth, natural-sounding on-axis audio quality and excellent off-axis rejection of sound arriving from the sides and rear of mic.

Suited for both boom & handheld use, it provides the narrow acceptance angle desirable for long-distance sound pickup, featuring excellent sound rejection from the sides and rear of mic and switchable low-frequency roll-off. The AT897 guarantees you a very specific audio capture with high intelligibility.

The low-cut position reduces sensitivity to ambient low frequency noise such as traffic noise, ventilation, reverberation of the room or mechanical vibrations transmitted through the recording device.

The AT897 short shotgun microphone can be powered in two ways allowing for maximum versatility. You can use it on a professional camera or recorder equipped with XLR inputs with phantom power, or by using a 1.5V AA battery (included) on any device equipped with XLR inputs.

Audio-Technica's Line and Gradient Condenser Microphones combine a directional capsule ("gradient") and an interference tube which removes the sound from the rear. Generally, the interference tube of this type of microphone can be extended to reduce the acceptance angle and thus increase the sound capture distance.
